Aadi and Aahaan

Hello, we’re Aahaan Singh and Aadi Mehndiratta.

We’re both American high schoolers in the Bay Area. We’re both interested in history, and, while we’re obviously not historians, it’s still something we’re passionate about. Being second-generation Indian immigrants, we think that Indian history can allow us to contribute to discourse in our own way with our own perspectives and ideas. This blog is not supposed to be a rigorous dive into Indian history, but rather a blog which talks about interesting facts and events without being time-consuming or hard to read.

We started this blog out of a desire to talk about something we are interested in and express our ideas. Good blogs on Indian history (while probably not nonexistent) are extremely rare, since many of them talk excessively about religion and not as much about historical events, and Indian history, in general, is not a very well-covered topic in mainstream discourse or in schools. We hope to shed light on these lesser-known parts of Indian history without taking a religious view of what happened. That being said, nobody is immune to biases and it is easy to view history through one’s own lens, so it is certainly possible that we make points that disagree with others’ interpretations.

In general, we will try to focus on the whole time scale of Indian history, from the first cities to independence (although we will avoid modern times since Indian politics is both very different from the United States’ and deeply polarizing). Since we are no historians, we don’t have access to a trove of primary sources, but we will base what we say on established sources, such as books on Indian history, and cite them in and after the posts.

Please ask questions, give feedback, and write us kind words in the comments, and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for reading our blog, and we hope you learn something from it!
